Twilight makes me sad ;_;

Tue May 19, 2009, 10:41 PM
*Sigh* :/ I told myself that I would never waste my life writing a twilight rant, but this is just so depressing I had to do it.

Soooo anyway, I work at Chapters in the kids section (0-12) and I had a 11 year old girl and her mom come in today looking for a book. I asked the girl what kind of stuff she liked to read about and she just shrugged her shoulders so I started going around and showing her some books. My first choice was Dealing with Dragons, which is a funny, witty, amazing book about a princess who wanted to do more then fill the typical 'get kidnapped and marry a prince' role. She didn't really seem interested (the brat) so I showed her a bunch of other stuff. I pointed out Island of the Blue dolphins, Julie of the Wolves, The last Apprentice, Bridge to Terabithia, Airborn, The Redwall series, The Black Cauldron series, Because of Winn-Dixie, Matilda, Watership down, Wind in the willows, City of Ember, The rats of Nimh, the Jungle book, Little women, The Wrinkle in Time, Where the Red Fern Grows, The Graveyard book, The Judy Blume books, and sooooo soooooo many others!

And you know what this little moron says???!!!!!!

'No, those sound boring. Dont you have anything like Twilight?'

And then she sees the 'Unofficial Twilight companion guide' (Wth?!) and proceeds to freak out and demand her mom buy it for her D:

So yeah, while shes running around squealing, I'm left standing there with a copy of Lassie in my hand, and I know I have this disbelieving, horrified expression on my face cuz the mom gets very uncomfortable and says 'Well, at least she is reading'.

No, just no >.<

Twilight is a poorly written, cliched, waste of paper that does nothing more then target little girls and romanticizes obsession, sexism, pedophiles and continues the horrific trend of confusing lust and teen angst with love. Personally, I believe in quality instead of quantity, and that letting young, impressionable, easily swayed, obsessive girls (and considering that we had Twilight brats try to steal our Edward cutout more then once, yeah, I think those all apply) read about some idiot girl (Bella) who has no personality and opinions (other then 'Edward is hot' and 'omg I will now kill myself cuz he is not here' ) is just bad parenting.

lol and I'm not going to even start on the sparkling and eating of the mountain lions and the fact that Edward an his pals go to high school! Despite being immortal! I know if I become a vamp high school is the last place I wanna be. Plus hes like a 100+ years and macking on a 16 year old girl AND despite the fact that he is teh UNDEAD manages to impregnate her with his supersperm XD

And yes I have read half of the first book and snippets from the other ones. Not to mention talked to people who have read all 4 books (both people who hated and people who loved them)

It's just...... This has disillusioned me a little, and I need someone to comfort me and tell me it will all go away eventually :C

Oh my god, this saddened me to read too.
I once made a rant that went something to the effect of "I'd rather someone be an ignorant faggot than an ignorant faggot who thinks they're intelligent because they read books like Twilight"

It really saddens me that books like Twilight, Harry Potter, and Warriors are "encouraging" people to read. There are such better books! And by encouraging through these books, it just encourages more mediocre authors and for more classics to be carelessly tossed aside because they are "boring." But classics have all the themes those damned books have, and are considerably better written! For example, The Canterbury Tales offers a variety of short stories of different genres.. raunchy, silly, life-lesson, and such...

Urg my thoughts exactly :C I have read a lot of the new books we get (from 0 to 12) so that I know what I'm talking about when I recommend stuff, and so much of it is just a waste of trees. It feels like authors now-a-days don't put a lot of effort into writing cuz they figure its a kids book so it doesn't matter.... or they just think kids are dumb and wont notice XD

As for Twilight, its not even the plot that really gets me, its just that her writing is soooooo bad. I have seen better writing styles and character development in fanfictions.

She brings shame to the literary world, and as many people have already said, she sets female characters back a 100 years.

Just YES. That's all I have to say about that rant.
:iconnaida4:
i like twilight -hides-
BUT.
the whole supersperm confused me. |D rosalie couldn't have kids but yet edward got bella pregnant? shouldn't guy vampires bodies stop too..?

and the unofficial guide OFFICIALLY sucks.
it makes NO sense.
just some person who happened to get published cause they made an entire book of "would you be edward's soulmate?" quizzes and full of weird vampire stories.

since you work there, you should HIDE ALL of the unofficial guide books.
SERIOUS MAJOR SUCKAGE.

anyways.
those are great books!

you should have told her mom while she was running around screaming that the unofficial guide is inappropriate for people under the age of 14 (like a PG 14 book) xDD

I have to say that you are right. I did in fact read the all the books, and I'm not saying I hate them but there are some SERIOUS flaws with them. I do believe it's a little too "slit wrist" so that made me fairly pissy when I was reading it.

I just think is was a some what a good fantasy story (without all the unnecessary sex and pregnancy). I kinda think Stephine got a little out of hand with Breaking Dawn it seemed so off the beaten path so AGAIN I was pissy. Plus the writing it's self was horrible, and in all honesty the vocabulary rage could have been wider.

I also think the hype about it is way out of hand. I mean the books are older and as soon as the movie comes out the book sales began. It's ridiculous and the movie sucked as well.

I'm glad you ranted, because I was on the verge of it. :3

Your mom.

Dude girls have actually tried to steal a friggen cutout of that guy? That's like.. really really sad. I personally hate the books, like you said the writing is horrendous and the entire thing's just ridiculous.

And gross.

It gives girls these crazy ideas about guys that none of them will ever live up to.. No one's perfect like that. That book also insults me as a vampire fan.. They do NOT sparkle or eat.. huge cats.. wtf.. she just raped a classic horror creature in 4 lameass books.

on a side note, I have all the Redwall books. I love them. those little idiots should take the time to read them

*Gasp* Hide the unofficial Twilight companion guide? Never! Its such an easy upsell I feel a little bit guilty each time I mention it to a customer XD

lol Not only should any bodily fluids have dried out once he became a vamp, but I don't know how his sperm managed to survive under the extreme conditions. Considering its been mentioned multiple times in the book that he is ICE COLD, they should technically all be dead.

Ah XD the beauty of pulling plots out of your ass. Good work SM.

It may be a 'good fantasy story' but ya know what? Its already been done :/ multiple times. There are a large number of books that aside from the sparkly vampires(sweet bucket full of corn whhhyyyyyy? ;_; ) follow the same story line. Plus they are better written.

Twilight has nothing to offer that hasn't been done before, and that the fact that people still clamor to it is just sad.

:iconbabysuccubus:
lol yeah XD we had to move him from the first floor to the third floor cuz they kept grabbing it and trying to run out the door. Luckily its big and bulky so we managed to get him back safe and sound each time.

Its also sad when they justify his actions with 'well he loves her'. Like the parts when he watches her sleep and takes the engine out of her car so that she cant see her friend. I would see that as creepy and controlling, but Twilight makes it seem like those behaviours are ok if the guy 'loves' you :/
